How to Identify Verb Groups

Verb groups are directly related to conjugation. Here is how to tell them apart:

⚫️ Group 1

Verbs in Group 1 end with the sound of “- i ます”.

⚫️ Group 2

Verbs in Group 2 end with the sound of “- e ます”

exception

These verbs are in Group 2 even though they end with “-iます”.

⚫️ Group 3

This group consists of only two basic verbs: ki-masu (come) and shi-masu (do). It also includes compound verbs like “Noun + shi-masu” (e.g., benkyo-shimasu).
