Let’s practice talking about time! Here are two dialogues for you to try. Check the “Substitution Practice” below each one and use the audio to practice on your own.

A: まいあさ なんじに おきますか?
( maiasa nan-ji [ni] oki-masuka? )

B: 7じ に おきます。
( shichi-ji [ni] oki-masu. )

A: What time do you do you wake up every morning?
B: I wake up at 7:00.

timeに おきます。
( “time” [ni] oki-masu. )
I wake up at “time”.

A: スーパーは なんじから なんじまでですか?
( sūpā [wa] nan-ji [kara] nan-ji [made] desuka? )

B: あさ 10じ から よる 9じ まで です。
( asa jū-ji [kara] yoru ku-ji [made] desu. )

A: From what time to what time is the supermarket open?
B: It’s open from 9 in the morning until 10 at night.

practice

placetime から time までです。
( place [wa] time [kara] time [made] desu. )
“place” opens from “time” to “time.”
  • ぎんこう・9:00-3:00 pm・bank
  • ゆうびんきょく・9:00-5:00 pm・post office
  • びょういん・8:30-6:00 pm・hospital, clinic
  • カフェ・11:00-9:00 pm・cafe
