います・あります
います : There is a living thing or there are living things.
あります : There is a thing or there are things.
place に … が あります
meaning : There is … in a place.
This sentence pattern is used to talk about what is in a place.
It is especially used when you found something.
tēburu [no] ue [ni] purezento [ga] ari-masu.
( There is a present on the table. )
… は place に あります
meaning : … is in a place.
It is an answer of “Where is something?”.

hasami [wa] doko [ni] ari-masuka?
( Where are scissors? )
B : はさみは ひきだしの なかに あります。
hasami [wa] hikidashi [no] naka [ni] ari-masu.
( Scissors are in a drawer. )
