⚫️ Verb Masu-form はじめます
meaning : to start doingIt means that you start doing something. It is also used to say about habits or phenomena.
gohan [o] tabe-hajime-mashita.
( I started eating. )
sengetsu [kara] jimu [ni] kayoi-hajime-mashita.
( I’ve been going to the gym since last month. )
sakura [no] hana [ga] saki-hajime-mashita.
( Cherry blossoms started to bloom. )
Verb
⚫️ Verb Masu-form つづけます
meaning : to keep doingIt means that you continue doing something or some phenomenon continues.
kanojo [wa] musuko [no] namae [o] yobi-tsuzuke-mashita.
( She kept calling her son’s name. )
amerika [ni] ita-toki [wa] mainichi eigo [no] hon [o] yomi-tsuzuke-mashita.
( When I was in US, I kept reading books in English. )

saikin futori-tsuzukete komatte-imasu.
( I don’t know what to do because I keep gaining weight recently. )

⚫️ Verb Masu-form おわります
meaning : to finish doingIt means that you finish doing something.
mō tabe-owari-mashita.
( I already finish eating. )
It cannot be used for phenomenon.
ame [ga] furi-yami-mashita.
( It stopped raining. )
saikin futorana-kunari-mashita.
( I don’t gain weight recently. )
