meaning : want to doIt is used when you talk about your desire.
nihon [e] ikitai-desu.
( I want to go to Japan. )
Particle
When the verb is transitive verb, the “object” is often marked by “が“.
watashi [wa] ocha [o] nomitai-desu.
わたしは おちゃが のみたいです。
watashi [wa] ocha [ga] nomitai-desu.
( I want to drink tea. )
Conjugation
“Verb-たいです” conjugates as i-Adjective.

“ほしいです” is i-Adjective, and the “object” is always marked by “が“.
mizu [ga] hoshī-desu
( I want water. )
Note
When you talk about someone else’s “desire”, you should say “… ようです・そうです・らしいです”.
kanojo [wa] ocha [o] nomitai-yōdesu.
( She wants to drink tea. )
karen [wa] nihonjin [no] tomodachi [ga] hoshī-rashīdesu.
( Karen wants Japanese friends. )
